The Jocks

Introduction:
Our group has decided to concentrate on this social issue : Religion, Race
We have determined the human flaws in the play to be : Hatred, Ignorance and Guilt
The main theme(s) in this play will be : A popular boy falls in love with a muslim girl and his friends
believe the stereotypical things said about her religion and make the boy feel embarrassed to be seeing
her. He feels he must choose his friends over this girl, even though he is deeply in love with her. She cant
bare it so she kills herself. His friend feels terrible for ruining his best friends life and kills himself out of
grief.
The setting will be : School (2002)
We plan to incorporate a chorus by : football players
We have given ourselves different jobs in order to complete this project efficiently

II. Plot Outline:
Setting : East Morrison High School (Feb. 2002)
Characters :
Vanessa - Muslim, Main Character
Adam -American , Popular, Vanessas boyfriend
Tommy - Adams bestfriend, popular, cocky, judgemental, leader of the pack, plays football
Aaron - Adam and Tommys friend, plays football
James - Adam and Tommys friend, plays football
Internal Conflict: Tommy believes stereotypical things said about Vanessas religion and Adam must
choose between them too.
External Conflict: Vanessa is Muslim.
Rising Action : Adam falls in love with Vanessa but after being told constant bad things about her and he
has to decide to keep his friends or her.
Climax : Adam decides to keep his friends and loose Vanessa
Falling Action : Vanessa kills herself and Tommy feels terrible for ruining his best friends life so he kills
himself also.

Outline:
Prologue: Bench, one locker, Clothes are brought into the room. Tommy and Adam are in the locker room
getting dressed talking about the girl that Adam likes. Adam tells Tommy that she is muslim and Tommy
flips out saying she is a teriest and shes not like us. Adams says no she not like that. Tommy says
whatever and slams the locker door and walks out upset.
Parodos: Adam is willing to give Vanessa a try even though his friends dont approve. He doesnt believe
the stereotypes. 2002 set in Virginia.
Scene 1: Adam really likes Vanessa. His friends start to shut him out. Adam tries to talk to his friends and
they start to open up. They constantly say rude things about his girlfriend and tell him to stop seeing her
but Adam shakes it off.
Chorus 1: Adam likes Vanessa and doesnt care about his friends because he is happy.
Scene 2: They invite him to go out with them and all their friends, a guys night. Adam cancels because of
a date with Vanessa and Tommy gets mad. Adam tries to get all his friends together.
Chorus 2: Tommy is very angry that Adam is still putting his girlfriend before his friends. Adam feels
bad but wants to have his girlfriend and friends.
Scene 3: All of Adams friends agree. While hanging Vanessa makes a jokes about jocks, offending
Tommy, Aaron and James. They make a joke offending Vanessas religion and she leaves. Tommy tells
Adam that he now must choose between them or her. Adam decides to leave Vanessa for his friends.
Chorus 3: Adam wants Vanessa in his life but feels his friends might have a point and starts to realize
that hes known his friends longer.
Scene 4: Vanessa cant bare how terrible she feels and kills herself. Once Adam finds out he regrets his
decision and unfriends Tommy. Adam goes to try and apologize to Vanessa only to find out she has
already killed herself. Tommy feels terrible and guilty.
Chorus 4: Tommy is alone now and cant live with himself.
Exodus: Tommy apologizes to Adam but Adam refuses to ever forgive him. Tommy kills himself because
of what he has done.
