Amuse Restaurant at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), Richmond, VA, 23220
Servers Assistant (S.A.) / Banquet Staff (Part-time)
Worked all available services as an S.A., lunch, dinner, and brunch on the weekends
Responsibilities covered stocking my side stations (there were three) full of napkins, clean and polished silver,
bread plates, butter saucers, freshly cut house-made bread, butter knives to go with the bread, sugar and sweetners, tea
boxes, clean towels and rags to clean, and finally trays for the servers and myself
Set up water stations at all the side stations as well, essentially filled buckets with ice to keep the jugs of water cool
and on ice during service, it was also my responsibility to ferry the water jugs to and from the water filtration system in the
kitchen back to the water stations
Served fresh break, occasionally there was special bouche (small complimentary appetizer) to be served during
lunch and dinner service, special brunch bread on Sundays when the guests have their menus removed
Also provided water service to each table, also refilled any drinks they might have had besides alcohol
Cleared tables after service was completed, and wiped tables down promptly so it could be seated immediately
Setting up the tables, adding or taking away places to accommodate incoming parties
Banquet service from the Museum to the Commonwealth Club wasnt too different, par the fact that the museum
had three times larger parties, facilities, and banquet staff
Had to be somewhat knowledgeable of the VMFA, its layout, the grounds, and its exhibits for the guests should
they have any questions

Before physically starting as a technician, I had to pass five different ski binding proficiency tests for the
2014/2015 season to prove that I was competent enough to operate, and modify the gear I was working with
Also had to study and have a brief understanding of the technology being used in the skis/snowboards
We were the smallest ski rental shop on the mountain, having three stations to work with and at most three
employees on staff, so efficiency and speed were key factors as on an average day we would deal with anywhere from 40-80
rentals
The process for rentals would begin by directing customers through the contract agreement with Breeze
This was followed by determining what type of gear they wanted, i.e. whether or not they were skiing,
snowboarding, and what type of rider they were (Class 1, 2, or 3), as well as whether or not they needed helemts/ski poles
After determining the equipment needed, we would fit boots according to their shoe sizes that we would usually
measure
Followed by figuring out what size ski/snowboard the customer preferred, and if they had never been or didnt
have enough information to determine for themselves they would ask us to use our best judgment, wed do our best to match
the best ski/board for the conditions upon which they rented based off technology in in the equipment
After collecting all of the equipment, we would manually have to scan each piece of equipment and match it to the
person specific contract
While scanning, this is the point at which you will have to determine the DIN & boot sole length to fit the boots to
the skis (specific to skis only), otherwise you would match the snowboarding boots with the correct size binding and then set
the bindings at the angles in which the customer prefers on the board, otherwise itd be set to the default setting
Although I did not have access to the register, I did act as a sales associate selling gear in the shop
Every week I would have to safety test 16 ski bindings as it was requirement in the industry
Ran damaged skis/snowboards to and from the repair shop
Applied fresh coat of wax on equipment upon request
Cleaned the equipment, and kept everything orderly when we werent doing rentals, things like cleanings the
windows, boot racks, ski racks, skis and snowboards, vacuuming, re-organizing of the merchandise, etc.
Manager offered me a supervisor position should I return this next season
