Digital Class Attendance Recorder Using (Near Field

Communicator/Biometric Scanner)
*Still figuring out whether to use biometrics or NFC*
Project Description:
The Digital Attendance Recorder will specifically be used for class attendance
on designated subject courses. Classrooms will be equipped with a device that can
identify a (fingerprint/ID) of a student and/or teacher. The (biometric/NFC) scanner
will be integrated with a LCD/Tablet device which will serve as the main output
platform of the project. The LCD output will display the following: Room (i.e.
MB101), current time (schedule), subject, professor and list of students enrolled in
the course.
The device will contain information about the users, their ID numbers, etc.
This information will be used as database for input and output functions. The
scanner will accept a fingerprint scan/ID scan and will go to the database to scan
the information and then output that information on the LCD display then show that
the user (particularly student) is currently enrolled in the scheduled course and then
after scanning, it will mark the user present on the specific schedule. The list of
students will be shown on the display and as per scan, there will be marks of
attendance. If a user fails to scan their information, the device will automatically
mark the user as absent on that particular schedule. It will also include a log-in time
for the users to identify who are and will be late for the given time allotted. This is a
convenient way to identify the truant, and tardy students. The information can be
saved via USB device, email, or printing. It can also function as a security feature.
The databases will include information about the students (ID number, name,
program, etc.), teachers, schedule (time slot, duration, etc.), and subject
information (enrolled students, etc.). This database, ideally, will be integrated with
the school registrars database that contains the necessary information for the
device to function properly.

Objectives:

To provide a new functional and convenient attendance recorder that can help
professors keep track of their schedule and attendance with ease
To allow students to properly identify themselves
To add a new security feature within the institution
