As a school that is reforming itself and making major progressive changes, dynamic, talented, and fully-committed educators are needed. Jean Laurance is, without a doubt, one of those educators. As the Social Science Division Head, I have worked with others in the school to help move Dundee Crown forward. Various people in the building have risen to the surface to become fellow ‘change agents’ & many administrators feel that Jean has proactively sought to play a key role in being a part of Dundee Crown's reformation. Ihave worked with Jean on several committees, including our Restructuring Committee, School Improvement Team, and ‘Struggling Learners’ Committee, all of which are components of creating systems and organizational structures to improve student learning at Dundee Crown High School. Simply put, when Jean speaks, people listen. Her opinions and ideas are highly respected and she genuinely cares about improving the school, not just because she cares about the students here, but because she understands that her job as an educator is to playa role in improving any school she is at. Essentially, Jean understands that the status quo in education is not acceptable. Jean not only is an educational leader at Dundee Crown. The way she interacts with students is true evidence that she connects with them & is able to provide superior support. Perhaps her most impressive success is that of a standards-based grading policy that she has designed. Jean makes the desired outcomes of her courses explicitly clear and works with her students to achieve mastery. Most notably, this is done through Jean's use of formative assessments to check for understanding along the way. Jean Laurance is a tremendous asset to Dundee Crown High School and will serve any school exceptionally well. highly recommend her. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further questions. Sincerely,
