Gerald A. Lawson
Gerald A. Lawson was an engineer and inventor from New York
City, New York. He was born on December 1st, 1940 in New York
City and died on April 9th, 2011 in Mountain view, California and
was alive from 1940 to 2011 (71 years). When he was young he
always looked up to George Washington Carver and wanted to be
a creative and brilliant inventor and engineer. Growing up he
would dabble with electronics, which helped him be a great
inventor.
He is very famous for inventing an interchangeable cartridge
video gaming system called the Fairchild Chanel F in the 1970s
that revolutionized the world of gaming. It had interchangeable
cartridges that you could switch out and play other games on just
on one gaming console that allowed more space in your houses.
This invention also led to other gaming systems that wouldnt be
here if it werent for Gerald such as PS, Nintendo, and Xbox.
One of the problems that he had encountered was that he was an
African American inventor and many people didnt treat him with
respect. Many people even thought that he was Indian and didnt
care, but he still invented something unpredictable.
Geralds biggest success would probably be that he was the first
African inventor to create an interchangeable gaming system.
this was a huge accomplishment for black American history as he
was one of the first African American inventors.
