SAP CONTENT SERVER

Description
The SAP Content Server is based on the MaxDB database. Therefore, besides
MaxDB, an independent content server is always available in every SAP system
installation. This means that the SAP system provides the necessary technical
infrastructure for all document-based applications and business scenarios that do
not require a long-term archiving solution.
Applications that use the technical infrastructure of the SAP Content Server include
the SAP Business Workplace, SAP ArchiveLink, the Document Management System
(DMS), and the Knowledge Warehouse.
The SAP Content Server is not intended to replace optical storage systems and
other storage media for long-term document archiving.
SAP Cache Server
The SAP Cache Server provides the following benefits:
Seamless and transparent integration into existing content server landscapes
Faster client response times
Reduced administration
Cache servers speed up access to document content by supplying the client with
documents from a physically close location, even if the content server is located far
away. Cache servers are similar to content servers, but require less administration
for the same level of access protection.
