Critique

Directions:

Critique your fellow photographers! This is an exercise to help your

classmates make sure their artwork conveys the message they intended!!

First create a Rubric for the project. List for yourself what you should be

looking for according to the theme. Next, Describe the image. Use terms learned in
class to discuss student work. Discuss depth of field, elements and principals of
design, color balance, exposure and how each adds meaning to the image. Finally
discuss the symbols and content in the image

should include for this project in order to fulfill the idea or theme.

Photo description: Describe exactly what you see in the image. List each

element or symbol .

Describe what each element means individually.

Meaning

Composition-How does the angle affect our interpretation of the image. Are

you above, below or at eye level with the subject. How does this affect you the
audience? How does it make you feel in relation to the subject?

Color Balance-Describe the color in the image. How do the colors make you

feel? How do colors draw your attention? What colors make you look or relax?
What do you think each color means?

1. Which of the elements of photography (line, shape, texture etc.) can you point out in

this photograph?

Do you think this photograph was made to document something, or for other reasons?

What is the title of the piece? What do you think the photographer was trying

to convey or say about the place with the photograph?

Does the image represent the place as a stand alone image or as apart of a

series? Why?

Where would you place this image in a series of 5 images about Bell, the

beginning , middle or end? Why would you place it there?

7. What kind of text would you associate with your photos. Is this a documentary about a

person? Interview? Is this a story about a place? (comic strip ) Is the photo just about evoking
emotion? )poem or artistic piece?
8. Write a one paragraph summary describing the thesis and meaning of the whole project.
