Technology & Literacy Philosophy

Individuality:
All students are to be seen as individuals in the classroom
Every student has a different learning style
Getting to know your students on a personal level is key to meeting the
varying ability levels of the students in your classroom
Understanding the students hobbies/interests can make for more
engaging lessons and allow for more student participation
All students need to be held accountable for their own work and ideas
Group Work:
Students sharing their ideas and experiences with one another can be
very beneficial to their classmates learning
Seating students in clusters instead of rows allows students to
collaborate with one another
Collaboration is KEY, both verbally and digitally
Can hinder self-discovery in students
Reinventing & Assessing Yourself:
Change needs to occur from year to year depending on the types of
students that you have in your classroom
After teaching a lesson it is important to reflect on how it went and see
what things you can potentially change for next time to make the
lesson even stronger
Using technology to create charts and graphs to compare and contrast
student data on assessments and other classroom work is beneficial to
instruction
Trial and error is a necessary part to becoming a successful teacher
Reflection = Improvement
A Teacher is a Guide:
The teachers role in the classroom is to guide the students to the
discovery of their own learning
Teachers need to ask questions that allow students to channel the
deeper meaning of various concepts
Teachers need to model what their students should be doing in the
classroom
Teachers need to create lessons where the students are doing more
thinking then they are
Importance of Literacy:
Literacy skills need to be incorporated across content areas
Being literate is more than having the ability to read and write
Incorporating technology into literacy instruction can enhance a
students ability and understanding
Explicit instruction should be followed by guided practice and then
independent practice

Literacy instruction should be balanced (reading, writing, speaking,

listening, viewing, and presenting)
