Approximately 1.7 million young people call the streets home
every year.
Nearly 20,000 homelesspeople 24 years old and younger live in
New York City.
Children under 18 accounted for 39% of the homeless population.
Of that number, approximately 42% were younger than age
5.
Approximately 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT.
Every year, approximately 5,000 homeless young people will die
because of assault, illness, or suicide while trying to survive.

Chicago
An August 2014 analysis by CCH estimates that
138,575 Chicagoans were homeless in the
course of the 2013-14 school year.

CPS identified a record 22,144 homeless students in


the 2013-14 school year, a years increase of 18.6%.
Of this, 98.2% were children of color and 20% were
diagnosed with disabilities or developmental delays.
Homeless students included 2,647 unaccompanied
youth, teens who were homeless and living without
parent or guardian
