Data representation: Pie charts Objectives Students will: + Define pie chart + Develop understanding of pie charts and how they can be used to describe a set of data + Know how to calculate angles in pie charts + Interpret results and draw conclusions from pie charts + Represent results in appropriate data format Rubric ere lorecery Meets Cresco Does not meet eet Shows understanding & interpretation (25%) Ability to collect data and apply (25%) Ability to read data in pie chart (80%) Student relates Provides enough definition to evidence of practice and understanding personal meaning use of pie chart Student collects Student is able to data without the use technological research to Solio comprehend it's collect data ea Precisely draws Student reads conclusions and without precision communicates or angle data from chart variability Student fails to relate theoretical and practical use of pie charts Unable to neither collect nor apply data requested Student fails to read pie chart appropriately Pie chart is a type of graph in which a disk divided into sectors where each sector represents an item in the data In a pie chart, the area of each sector is proportional to the quantity it represents. To draw a pie chart, one must calculate the central angles of different sectors Movie example: Imagine you just did a survey of your friends to find which kind of movie they liked best. Here are the results: Table: Favorite Type of Movie Action Romance Drama 5 6 1 You could show that by this pie chart: Sebi: 4 (20%) comedy: 4 (20%) drama: 1 (5%) action: § (25%) (30%) How do we calculate the angles? Remember!!! * The angles at the centre of a pie chart MUST add up to 360° For example: How do we calculate the angles? Calculation * 20 students are represented by 360° * One student is represented by 360° = 18° 20 So if 5 of the friends like Action movies then the corresponding angel would be: 5x18°=90° Question: Calculate each central angle Comedy 4x18°= 72° Action 5x18°= 90° Romance 6x18°= 108° Steps for constructing a pie chart: colors and label them scifi: 4 Thus, we obtain the required pie chart, as shown in the given figure: drama: 1 action: 5 romance: 6 A few entertaining examples: What 90's Kids Learned About Science From Use Of Time With Essay Due Tomorrow What are you doing right now Di nase stea ous : Selves Where your pen goes when you drop it Now for a Quiz... httos://app.nearpod.com/#/nome Conclusion: SAMR model + Substitution: This is incorporated through the use of slides and online quizzes rather than traditional board, pen and paper. + Augmentation: The animation and use of color schemes makes for a more entertaining and memorable lesson. + Modification: By adding videos and images to the lesson we encourage a different view of the class and different design. + Redefinition: The ease and efficiency of the "live session" quiz and result reports is a drastic, yet refreshing, change that was previously inconceivable.
