W to be in VP-8 asa part of the Maritime P: Reconn ance Community. | am thrilled to be back in this squadron and humbled to be the Commanding Offi We've accomplished a great deal over the past year and are just catching our stride following tr sition as we prepare for our first P-8 deployment to Japan. If yo member and would like to make a difference in the lives of the FIGHTING TIGERS, please let myself, CDR Wood or CMC Campbell know. We would love to have you join the team, Tiger Skipper Barlow The Fighting Tigers Patrol Squadror Ombudsman Greetings Tiger Families, With the end of school in sight and the summer months upon us, we hope that everyone will be enjoying their summer vacations and spending, time with your loved ones. Please remember to check with MWR for more information regarding the many events being held on base and in the Jacksonville and Orange Park areas this summer. As many of you know, the month of June is officially the beginning of Hurricane Season and it generally lasts until the end of November. This month we would like to take this opportunity to discuss emergency preparedness. Now we are fully aware that it has been decades since a large hurricane has hit the Jacksonville area, and most experts are predicting that the 2015 season will be especially tame, but as military families we need to be prepared for any emergency situation. Evacuations are more common than many people realize. Fires, floods, hurricanes, as well as transportation and industrial accidents force hundreds of yearly evacuations across the U. S. The amount of time you have to leave depends on the hazard. If the event is a weather condition, such as a hurricane, you generally have a day or two to prepare yourself. However, many disasters allow no time for people to gather even the most basic necessities. This is why planning ahead is essential! Plan how you will assemble your family and supplies and anticipate where you will go for different situations. Choose several destinations in different directions so that you have options in an emergency and know the evacuation routes to get to those destinations. Also, don't forget about the family pets and have a plan to take care of them as well. Remember these three tips: + Be informed + Have a plan + Make a kit Birsaeneg raed Do Retenent) ‘There are many wonderful websites that can assist you in preparing your family for emergencies such as www.ready.gov, www.redcross.org, and www-fema gov/plan, just to name a few And most importantly, make sure that the command has an updated roster that we can contact you with! Let us know that you are safe! As always, if there are any questions please feel free to reach out to us a happy to provide you with any assistance that you may need, Thank you for allowing us to serve you. 1 wwe will be more than Best regards, Stefanie Eason and Nicole Briggs VP.8 Ombudsmen (904) 463.3579 VP8Ombudsman@ yahoo.com Orfticer Spouses Club Hello from the VP-8 Officer Spouses’ Club!
