Factors to Be Considered:

We were engaged in a war with the most casualties in our history.


The US did not want to invade Japan because it was estimated that we would
lose up to 1 million troops.
Finally, Einstein had laid the groundwork for the bomb, not knowing how it would
be used. He feared that Germany would get their hands on it, so he contacted the
U.S.
The U.S formed the Manhattan Project with $2 Billion dollars in funding and
200,000 people working on the project.
Japanese aggression had made it impossible to negotiate peace.

The Bombing:
First, in 1945, there were test bombs detonated in New
Mexico with 18,000 tons of TNT releasing a heat that was 3
times hotter than the sun.
On August 6, 1945 The U.S bombed the city of Hiroshima
killing 70,000 people instantly.
Two days later, the Soviet Union released another bomb on
Nagasaki, killing 80,000 people instantly.
Japan surrendered six days later, announced on the radio by
Emperor Hirohito.
