Volleyball Drill-Book: Beginner (Level)

- 2.1. Receiving Drills under simplified conditions

Equipment:

Every player is holding one ball

Teaching Points:

Drill Objective:
Creation of movement concept
concerning the position of the
forearms forming a board

The players should have a sturdy stand in the


moment they contact the ball
The impulse of stretching the arms goes from the
bottom to the top of the body and is especially
learnt in the first sequence of this drill
Observe the correct stretch of the elbows

Drill Description:
a) Lay the ball on the forearms (wide
angle between torso and arms).
Firstly, open your arms so the ball
drops on the floor. Secondly, close
your arms again, form a board and
try to receive the bouncing ball with
your forearms again. B) Throw the
ball a couple of meters away, run
after it and try again to receive it
with your forearms forming a board.

Drill Variations:

A partner is pushing the ball on


the forearms of player A.;
afterwards he/she throws it on
to the court and A runs after it in
order to receive it with
his/board
Increase the distance of the
throws
Throw the ball across the net
Perform an extra task (after
having thrown the ball and
before receiving it) this can be a
full body-rotation or a contact of
the hand on the floor
