THE CUBS CONNECTION

Nicely Elementary School

Valentines
Day!
We, here at Nicely, hope you
had a Happy Valentines Day!
Seeing the joy on our students
faces is just one of the many
perks of working at Nicely,
Take a minute to share your
smile and teach your children
that they, too, have the ability
to turn someones day around
with just a smile.

Report Cards
Remember, as report cards have already
come and gone, to continue to encourage
your children to work hard and strive to
reach the goals they ha ve set for
themselves. Success takes hard work and
dedication and our only hope is that each
and every one of our students has the
ability to conquer a goal that they have
put so much eort toward achieving. We
will continue to work with students on
setting goals, developing strategic plans
to reach those goals, and encouraging students to master their current
level of understanding. It is extremely important for students to
understand the significance of setting a goal and following that goal
through all the way to the end. Students may be learning organizational
skills, test-taking tips, successful homework practices and other tools to
help them thrive academically. Giving your children the opportunity to
practice these skills at home will only help them in the long run.

Small Groups & Classroom Lessons

As counselors, we are thrilled about the opportunity to work with students
individually, in small groups, and in the classroom. Our belief is that it is the
counseling departments responsibility to remove all and any barriers to help
each student excel in school as well as in the ever-changing world around us.
We must provide the tools for students to adapt and shine in any

environment. While it is our duty to act as the main liaison between school,

Saint Patricks Day

P.A.W.S. Program

Ever y year on March 17, the

Irish and the Irish-at-heart
across the globe observe Saint
Patricks Day. This day initially
began as a religious feast day for
the patron saint of Ireland. It
has
since
become
an
international festival celebrating
Ir i s h c u l t u r e w i t h p a r a d e s ,
dancing, special foods, and a
whole lot of green. Be safe and
enjoy as you celebrate this funfilled day!

It is our pleasure to announce that the Parents Are Welcome in School

Program is back and will be starting on Monday, March 2, 2015. This program
is for parents and their 4 or 5 year olds who will be entering Kindergarten in
August, 2015. There will be four evening programs throughout the month of
March from 6:00 - 7:00pm held in the Kindergarten Classrooms. Please pass
information along to other families who may be interested in participating in
our PAWS Program for incoming Kindergarteners.

According to tradition, four leaf

clovers bring good luck to their
finders, especially if found
accidentally!

Until Spring is here remember a kind word is like a spring day. Kind words are
free, spread them as you wish!

Respecting Others
Parents teach the best lessons
about respect. When children
see respect at home, they are
more likely to use it in other
areas of their lives.
Clearly state expectations.
Teach the reason behind
manners.
Acknowledge respectful
actions.

PSSA Testing
With PSSA testing quickly approaching us, we would like to remind parents
and guardians that these assessments measure how well students have
achieved in reading, mathematics, science, and writing according to
Pennsylvanias world-class academic standards. By using these standards,
educators, parents, and administrators are able to evaluate their students
strengths and weaknesses to increase students achievement scores. Please
remember how important it is for students to get a good nights rest and to
attend school during this critical time.
