E-Portfolios

History of e-Portfolios
Originated with art and architecture.
Used as a way to assemble samples and
evaluations of their work.
Convinced potential customers of their quality
and competence.
About 2 decades ago, adopted by
educationalists as an instrument to enable them
to assess the quality of teaching in schools.
Since then they have been used for many other
goals.

Types of e-Portfolios
Assessment
Usually

organized
around candidates
products, evaluations,
photographs and
video-recordings.
Doesnt test the actual
candidate, but proves
their competence.

Showcase
Person

is free to
determine content,
usually display examples
of their best work or
evaluations of that work.
Used for several reasons,
such as introducing to
potential employers and
presenting a review to a
committee or sponsor.

Designed

to keep
track of and plan your
development in any
area of life.
Commonly used by
students to achieve
goals and stay on task
in their education.

Reflective
Usually

used with
developmental eportfolios. Helps
to reflect on your
progress and
development.
