CALL for PAPERS

New Perspectives on School Librarianship: Embracing Innovation

The ALISE School Library SIG calls for papers to be presented during the SIGs conference program at the
annual ALISE conference (January 5-8, 2016 in Boston). Submitted papers should support the theme of the
ALISE School Library SIG: New Perspectives on School Librarianship: Embracing Innovation as well as the
2016 conference theme, Radical Change: Inclusion and Innovation (http://www.alise.org).
Dr. Eliza Dresang and her theory of Radical Change have influenced scholars in all fields of librarianship. A panel
of school library researchers will share 3-4 research papers exploring how school librarians and school library
education have been impacted by Dresangs Radical Change theory. In this call, we solicit research papers that
explore radical ideas in school librarianship. Examples of potential research topics include (but are not limited to):

Interactivity, connectivity and access;

Inclusive practices and innovative strategies;
Digital youth in school libraries;
Reimagining the education of school librarians based on Radical Change theory;
Impact of technology on school librarianship;
Collecting evidence to inform practice.

Papers are not limited to these listed topics. Broad perspectives on Radical Change are invited.
The ALISE School Library SIG panel session will begin with presentations of 3-4 research papers (10-15 minutes
each). This will be followed by an interactive round-table discussion - inviting participants to interact with each
panelist regarding issues raised by the papers, implications for practice, and future areas for research (30 minutes).
The research papers should be of a quality/nature to support a publishable article. Up to a 1000 word extended
abstract with a select reference list should be submitted by August 1, 2015 to Dr. Ellen Pozzi at
pozzie@wpunj.edu. In the subject line please indicate: ALISE SL SIG Proposal. Notice regarding acceptance will
be sent by August 15, 2015.
