FAIRBANKS--A busy week is in store for each of the
finalists for the presidency of the University of Alaska
system. Beginning April 8 with Carrol Krause, commissioner
of higher education with the Montana University System, each
of the four finalists will spend a week visiting university
campuses across Alaska.
In addition to Krause, the candidates are Wade Gilley,
senior vice president, George Mason University, Fairfax,
Virginia? Jerome Komisar, executive vice chancellor, state
University of New York, Albany, New York; and Patrick
O'Rourke, chancellor, University of Alaska Fairbanks. One
additional finalist withdrew his application.
Gilley will be in Alaska for the week-long interview
process April 22 through 28, Komisar will arrive April 29
and depart May 5. O'Rourke's week of interviews will take
place April 22 through 28. (SCHEDULES ATTACHED)
Citizens throughout Alaska will have an opportunity to
view candidate interviews on television in Anchorage (KAKM),
Fairbanks (KUAC), Juneau (KT00), Bethel (KYUK) and, possibly,
on RATNET, Interview scheduling thus far known is as
follows:
KUAC, Fairbanks--April 10, 17, 24 and May 1 at 8:30
p.m.; repeating the following Saturdays, April 14, 21, 28 and
May 5, at 3:00 p.m.
KAKM, Anchorage--April 30, May 1, 2 and 3 at 5:30 p.m.
KYUK, Bethel--May 1,2,3 and 4 at 1:30 p.m.
KT00, Juneau--May 1,2,3 and 4 at 11:00 p.m.

President Donald O'Dowd announces his intended
retirement to the Board of Regents.
Board President Evans announces appointments to
the Presidential Search Committee from
recommendations provided by chancellors and
university constituent groups.
Joint meeting between the Board of Regents and the
Presidential Search Committee.
Search Committee receives its charge from the
Board of Regents.
First meeting of the Presidential Search Committee
to consider organizational issues, timelines,
development of newspaper ads and presidential
qualifications.

Nominations and applications received and

selected to make site visits to the campuses of
finalist candidates.March 5-7, 1990 Members of the Search Committee meet for
ARCOvision interviews of semi-finalist candidates.
March 7, 1990 Last formal meeting of the Presidential Search
Committee. Committee decides on slate of finalist
candidates of not more than 5 and no less than 3 for
recommendation to the Board of Regents.
March 8, 1990 Emergency meeting of the Board of Regents.
Presentation of list of recommended finalist
candidates to the Board by Chairman of the
Presidential Search Committee. Public release of
names of finalists.
— Recommended finalist files are circulated to
a members of the Board of Regents for review.
March 14 - 9, 1990
joard visitation team makes on-site visits to finalist
candidates’ campuses in Montana, New York,
‘Virginia, Alabama, and Alaska.
Finalist/spouse vists to Alaska for on-campus inter-
views. Students, faculty, staff, and other citizenry
have the opportunity to meet with candidates and
submit comments.
