A COUPLE OF FACTS ABOUT

COCHLEAR IMPLANTS
Provide a sense of sound to a person who is
profoundly deaf or severely hard or hearing
Transmitter and receiver/stimulator receives
signals from the speech processor and
convert them into electric impulses
Different than hearing aids because hearing
aids amplify sounds so they can be detected
by damaged ears. Cochlear Implants bypass
damaged portions of the ear and directly
stimulate the auditory nerve
People who are deaf or severely hard of
hearing can be fitted for Cochlear Implants

ONE REASONONE REASON

WHY SOMEONE WOULD BE
FOR OR AGAINST COCHLEAR
IMPLANTS
For Cochlear Implants
Against Cochlear Implants
Hearing ranges from near normal to understand speech to no hearing
benefit at all.

There are anesthesia risks. For most people they arent affected but
some people certain medical conditions, it could be very risky for them.

MY OPINION ON COCHLEAR
IMPLANTS
I think Cochlear Implants would be very useful for someone who
doesnt already know sign language. For children, if you do it early
enough where they can learn a language, it would be good for them
if you want your child to go mainstream. But on the other hand, I
think when they become adults they might prefer to be in the Deaf
Community, only because they might feel like they fit in more. And
to be in the Deaf Community, and be in the Deaf Culture you would
need to know sign language to be able to communicate.
