Has conducted research on the antifungal activity test of essential oils

(Senna alata (L.) Roxb) against the fungi that cause skin diseases well known as
Dermatofitosis. The Essential oil was extract by water steam distillation which
obtained yield of 0,125%. The essential oil exhibited marked antifungal activity
against Trycophton rubrum, Microsporum canis and Epidermophyton flocossum. The
sensitivity of each test microorganism to the oil was determined using the agar
diffusion method. Tests carried out using a concentration of 25%, 20%, 15%, 10%
and 5%. The observations obtained an average diameter of inhibition of Tricophyton
rubrum was 20.5 mm, 15.43 mm, 14.26 mm 13.5 mm and 11.5 mm, Microsporum
canis was 15.43 mm, 12.63 mm, 10.46 mm, 9.56 mm, and 8.4 mm and
Epidermophyton floccosum was 11.36 mm, 9.63 mm, 8.7 mm, 7.3 mm, and 6.26 mm.
The chemical constituents of the essential oil of the leaves of oils (Senna alata (L.)
Roxb) were characterized using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)
technique and Nine compounds were identified which include 1.8 Cineole (48.97%),
- Pinene (24.96%), 1.4 Cyclohexadine (9.53%), Trans - Ocimene (7.48%), Pcymene (4.53%), - Pinene (1.94%), - Myrcene (0,98%), - Phellandrene (0.75%),
and - Terpinene (0.86%).
Key Words : Senna alata (L.) Roxb , Antifungal, Trycophton rubrum, Microsporum
