REFLECTION
Through the interview session, we have learnt what it
takes to be a Quantity Surveyor, which is the ability to
work as a team and having clear understanding in the
building regulation and other legal guidelines. Besides, a
Quantity Surveyor ought to have good knowledge in
different construction methods and materials. Budget
handling skills are also important to obtain or achieve an
optimum and accurate value of a project.
Do you have
any advice to
give to
students who
are pursuing
their studies
in QS or in any
other fields?

PROFILE OF INTERVIEWEE
What kind of project would you
like to handle in the future?
All project are similar once you have obtained
the skills and knowledge. If given a chance, I
would like to be involved in airport projects,
MRT, Hydroelectric Dam & power plants.
As a QS, cost accuracy and rigid time schedule is a challenge for me.
Besides, I have to ensure fairness to all parties, striving a balance between
the company & contractors.
THE INTERVIEW
I am also a contractual
and legal matters advisor
in the projects. Besides, I
have to monitor the
construction phases to
ensure forecast costs are
in line. During the
calculation in the
projects, feasibility
studies are done to
understand the time
frame, number of labours
and types material used.
Beginning until now, Ive handle 7 projects in total. It seemed very few but
looking into the time elevation of every project that is quite long it is
reasonable unless there are situation of hopping between jobs.
