FW: Wayzata School District Legislative Action Committee

Eric,
Thanks for the info. I will check it out.
There is a group of parents banding together to creat a coalition of public school advocates. They contacted
me recently and shared the following link. They told me that we will make a public announcement soon.
They have been talking to the folks in Sumner County who made a huge impact on the election in an effort
to learn from them. I dent know many details, but I do know they seem very committed to elevating
support for our schools. I was told they are having an organizational meeting this week. Will let you know
more as they communicate with me.

I've been looking at the websites of the districts just ahead/behind us on the School Digger list and came
across the Legislative Action Committee section for Wayzata Public Schools (#3 on lOK+Iist) here:
http://www.wayzata.k12.mn.us/Page/203

A lot of good information on that page, including the legislative platform and citizen toolkit. The LAC
organization partners with, but is separate from, the school district and advocates on its behalf.
Membership appears to include the Supt. & Board Representative, Teacher Education Assn.
Representative, Interfaith Outreach Representative, and one Representative per school.

I know we've been ramping up our own internal presence and Cherie and Bobby have taken on the role of
board liaisons- but I love what Wayzata is doing here and seems like something we could mimic to get
more parental education/engagement in the legislative process.
