Mapping a building by using linear

measurement tools
Introduction:
Mapping buildings is very important, because it's used to make maps for the
city that helps to deal with population urban planning for that city

Tools:
1-Tape: see figure(1)
2-Ranging Rod: see figure(2)
3-Arrows: see figure(3)
4-Compass: see figure(4)

Methodology:
1-Determine the building and exploration the area before performing any
field measurements we shape of the area, as well as, existing details and
draws a reasonable sketch of the area .
2-Determine all chain lines around the building which we need they
according the conditions below ,then draw they in the sketch.
3-Measure the angle between north direction and one of the chain lines .
4-Determine all corners of the building .
5-Measure the length of chain lines then record them.
6-We used the offset methods to mapping the building , where we measure
the vertical distance from corners of the building to the chain lines by using
the shortest distance then record its measurments.
7-To know drawing chain lines in the map we need to measure length of
triangle sides which its two sides are part of two chain lines first of them we
measure the angle between it and the north direction , then record
them( see figure 5 ).
8- Finally we can draw the building in the map .

Conditions Of Chain line:

1-The chain line should be as close as possible.
2-Number of chain lines should be minimum.
3-Achain line should not pass through any obstacles.
4-From any chain point two points at least can be seen.

5-Chain points should be at firm ground.

6-Angles between chain lines are be between(30-120).
7-The shortest length of any chain line should be 1/3 of the length of the
longest one.

This figure show the triangles which we take it to know drawing

chain lines in the map:

Tha experiment was easy and simple as telling how to mapping abuilding
(practically) after it
vague (theorical) but we have some difficulties in
draw the map(manually )because it is the first time we do it.
