Palace assures speedy probe on Ormoc

MANILA - Malacaang on Friday assured a speedy and objective investigation into the sea mishap in Ormoc City
which killed at least 38 people.
The Palace said the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed a Maritime Casualty Investigation Team to look into
the cause of the sinking of motorized boat M/V Kim Nirvana Thursday afternoon.
The investigation team is pursuing various avenues of inquiry, including possible overloading, capability of the captain
and its officers, load capacity of the vessel, it said.
"We expect a thorough investigation on the part of the PCG to find out what caused the incident. We mourn with the
families of those who lost their loved ones in the incident and assure them a speedy and objective investigation,"
deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a text message.
Search operations are ongoing for more than a dozen people still missing. -- With a report from Willard Cheng,
