The QUANTUM one-trip seal latch

protects working, production seals by
latching the production seals into the
gravel-pack or production packer. This
one-trip, premium-sealing system
uses chevron-style (Aflas, Teflon,
Ryton) seal units where dynamic seal
movement is anticipated. It is run in
on the production tubing and is designed for completions where the production packer is already in place, as
in gravel-packed wells.

The seal latch minimizes dynamic

seal movement, so the working seals
never leave their sealing bore. The
seal latch lands the floating production seals in an appropriate length
PBR above the packer. 10-, 15- and
20-ft [3-, 5- and 6-m] PBR lengths are
available. The seals are spaced out in
accordance with tubing movement
design criteria. During run-in, they
are attached to the PBR with shear
screws. After the seals are landed, the
screws are sheared, and seals floated
at the proper depth. This is done during the production-tubing trip with no
additional trips in the well required.
The seal latch is handled and run
with a standard screen table and does
not trap atmospheric pressure during
run-in. The latch includes standard
seal assembly hardware for simplicity,
reliability and easy retrieval.
The seal latches are manufactured
from materials that comply with
NACE standard MR0175 for sulfide
stress cracking resistant metallic
materials.
