Bucks, Rangers get big Highland Confernce wins

Cadillac News

Pine River 68
Beal City 62
BEAL CITY Beal City is
a tough place to win.
Pine River boys coach Brian Goodenow knows this. In
fact, the Bucks coach said
anytime you go to Beal City
and get a win, it is a big win.
On Thursday, Pine River got
that big win when the Bucks
came from behind to score a
68-62 win.
We are always happy
with a W even if we don't
technically play a great
game, he said. They were
outplaying us in the first

half but Mitchell McDonald had six threes in the

first half and kept us in the
game.
The Aggies jumped out
to a 23-15 lead after the first
quarter and led 39-37 at the
half. Goodenow said McDonald's 20 points in the first
half as well as Lucas Harris attacking the rim and
getting to free throw line
were what helped the Bucks
weather the storm in the
first half.
In the second half, defensive intensity was better
and the Bucks were able to
stop the Aggies penetration. That said, Pine River
still trailed Beal City as the
fourth quarter started, 55-53.
If McDonald helped keep

the Bucks in the game during the first half it was

the play of Greg Park that
helped to put Pine River
over the top in the fourth
quarter. Park had eight
points in the fourth quarter
and was 3 for 3 from the free
throw line.
He (Park) had a four point
play where he hit a three
and hit the free throw. That
put us within one point and
that turned the momentum
with just under two minutes
left in the game, Goodenow
said.
McDonald led the Bucks
with 25 points, eight rebounds and three assists
while Harris had 14 points
and 11 boards. Park added
13 points and nine rebounds

while Mason Powell had

nine points.
Pine River (10-2, 4-2) travels to Evart on Tuesday.

Marion 17
MARION Manton boys
basketball coach Ryan Hiller knows what it feels like
to be on the wrong end of a
lopsided loss.
Not too long ago, the Rangers were struggling and it
was Hiller and Manton that
were losing games by double digits. On Thursday, the
Rangers blasted Marion, 6318.
Marion did a good job of
