Yvonne Chaka Chaka

The Princess
of Africa

nw

She is known as the Princess of Africa, a woman whose impact has been
felt throughout the continent and around the world. Named one of the
top 100 Heroes of Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka is a performing artist,
humanitarian, entrepreneur and uses her undeniable charisma and
talent to live out her philosophy of giving back to make the world a better
place for children.
The daughter of a domestic worker with a standard six primary school
education, she credits her mothers courage and character building as
the foundation of her success. As an artist, she has performed for HRM,
Queen Elizabeth and other members of royalty in England, US Presidents
Bill Clinton and George Bush, three South African presidents and world
leaders from many countries. She has as much joy engaging and
entertaining women and children marginalized by poverty and lack of
opportunity.

A multiple platinum and gold award-winning artist who has shared the
stage with Bono, Angelique Kidjo, Johnny Clegg, Miriam Makeba and
many other musicians of note, Yvonne has used her music to inspire hope
and influence social change as well as to entertain.

Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas.)

Yvonne has been invited to address audiences around the world about
HIV prevention and malaria eradication and has graced the covers of
over 20 magazines, but she perceives being a celebrity as a gift and a
responsibility. Despite a hectic schedule that keeps her globe trotting, she
finds time to motivate, inspire and educate on issues close to her heart.
On October 13, at SOHOs Hope Rising Gala, she will receive The
Trailblazer Award for her contribution to the betterment of the lives of
women and children around the world. Previous honorees include Dr.
Gebisa Ejeta 2009 World Food Prize Laureate, Dr. Wendy Luhabe who is
a member of the U.S. Secretary of States International Council of
Womens Business Leadership, and Gail Mawocha founder of Mustard
Seed Africa.

Upon learning that malaria

kills 3,000 people in
Africa every day, many
of them children, Yvonne
founded the Princess of
Africa Foundation to raise
awareness and funds to
help eradicate malaria.

2015 marks her 10th
anniversary as UNICEFs
Goodwill Ambassador
against Malaria and as an
ambassador for Roll Back
Malaria sponsored by the
World Bank, United
Nations and the World
Health Organization and
other institutions. Yvonne
also served as
Ambassador for Nelson
Mandelas 46664 campaign,
and she is an honorary
Colonel in the South Africa
Air Force.
