Synopsis:
An aging Broadway diva employs a starstruck fan as her assistant only to learn that the woman is a
conniving upstart. (Source: Netflix)
All About Eve debuted in October of 1950 and received rave reviews upon its release. It earned 14
Academy Award nominations and won six. So far, this is the only film in history to receive four acting
nominations for women. The film has a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and also presents a
young, unknown Marilyn Monroe in one of her earliest film roles. Have I convinced you to watch it
yet??

My Thoughts on All About Eve:
This movie was much more progressive than I expected. It uses voice over narration, flashbacks, and
freeze frames. Bette Davis plays the role of strong female actress, Margo Channing; she is bold,
sarcastic, loud and I love it. (Maybe in part because I can relate to the sassiness she exudes.) This
film, in ways, is timeless and the issues remain very relevant today. The main character grows
concerned that directors, writers and producers will want to start casting younger actresses to play
her roles. Recently, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal was told that at 37, she was too old to play the love
interest of a 55-year-old man. I think women in the media will continue to deal with issues about
their age as the years go on, and All About Eve shows us a good example of that.
