Dementias

memory loss AND at least one of the following:

-apraxia; without work; inability to make skilled movements with accuracy
-aphasia; without speech;
-agnosia; without knowledge, inability to interpret sensations correctly although the
sense organs and nerves are functioning normally
Common co-morbidities
-DM, HTN, COPD, obstructive sleep apnea
GDS scoring: geriatric depression scale
0-4 = normal
5-8 = mild
8-11 = moderate
12-15= severe
cognitive screening
SLUMS < 21/30 suggestive of dementia
MMSE < 25/30 suggestive of dementia
GDS > 5 suggestive of depression
