Savage Inequalities

The article Savage Inequalities by Jonathan Kozol explains the social inequality and its
complete correlation to our society. Irl Solomon is a man who got a degree from Brandeis
University, where he graduated with a degree in law; however, more sought to teach civil schools
because of the worry of equal and civil rights. This man was so worried about the equality of
everyone he interacted with that he was actually noted to have four pregnant women living in
house and opened his arms to what he thought was morally acceptable. Solomon traveled and
understood the differences between racial segregation, one important one being the school of
Martin Luther King Jr. seems to be full of students whom are African-American in a school that
was dirty and the security is at a max.
Jennifers view on schools in poor areas, including Bronx and East St. Louis, who have
people that might have some speech problems or educational impairment. She explains how
unaccepting she is of the situation because of the inequality thats represented and displayed
throughout some unadapting societies. Jennifer also explains that her parents were trying to leave
the area they were in because of how bad the treatment of some people were along with wanting
to leave because of the unfairness. She believes that people that want an education in a society
where people dont want an education are doomed because of the fact that they will stick out
from the general majority. The fact of the matter she is explaining tells us how that our own
civilization might not be the right one for us, which leads to us not being completely accepting of
we are not completely sure.
The article explains how there are many dangers to raw sewage in the eastern part of St.
Louis that was overflowing a local playground. The water was so remarkably bad that people

were supposed to avoid going in it; however, the first few people that made notice to the bad
water got extremely sick. People in the area were complaining of the city being like a third world
nation. St. Louis now became one of the cities where people really wanted to get out of the
society, and this could have something to do with racial segregation that still occurs today along
with many other sociological factors that include people and the economy they live in.
In comparison, Rye, New York has a much more relaxed lifestyle. It takes a very short
time to get from Grand Central Station to the suburban areas in Rye, New York, along with an
even shorter ride to their school. This shows that the city has proper transportation along with the
trust to have these stations built for them. The people in this city seem to be more relaxed, which
most likely has something to do with the amount of criminal activity that happens, which means
that people most likely have the same intentions living in this city. That doesnt mean that this
city is segregated or that people are playing favoritism; however, more shows that a group of
people living in a society that want the same thing can achieve it by working together.
This was a very interesting article to read that I believe shows and explains how racist
and stereotypical people can be. I dont believe that most of the excuses named for the reason of
inequality had to do with as much that was accused; however, I believe they were all problems at
the time. There are sociological and psychological traits that I believe would have much more of
a correlation to how people were acting in a society rather than the reasons provided. Earlier in
history, we battled for land, then immediately after we are now battling to see who is best, which
I feel like is a complete opposite direction of progression than stereotyping. Many other reasons
might be greed, which leads to stereotyping, and also jealousy of what other people have and
what they dont want to have. In the past twenty years many thing have change, including people
recognizing racism and exploiting it, being more racist and stereotypical, and being secretive

about it. The only solution to this problem is to completely ignore it, otherwise it will be a reoccurring topic in which people will never be quiet about.
