Introduction
Thyroid cancer is a form of cancer that is located in the thyroid glance. It can be found in
anyone, male or female. Although it is more common in women than it is men, but it does not
mean that men are exempt from getting it. Usually it can be detected through changes in your
sleeping schedule, emotional changes, or even as simple as a lump on the neck. This form of
cancer is appearing in more lives daily; the ages are becoming unpredictable. There seems to be a
lack of knowledge of this cancer in the younger generations. This lit review will give knowledge
from different resources that will help answer these three questions
1) What are the different types of thyroid cancer and why are women diagnosed at a
higher percentage?
2) What current research is being done to prevent thyroid cancer and how are patients
made aware of the treatment options?
3) What is done to advance for awareness of thyroid cancer?

What are the different types of thyroid cancer and why are women diagnosed at a higher
percentage?
One way to gain a better understanding of thyroid cancer and the different types of
thyroid cancer is through the website ThyCa.org; this is a website ran by the Thyroid Cancer
Association. At the top of the website you will notice a tab that has Papillary/Follicular,
Medullary, and Anaplastic this are the four different types of thyroid cancer. If you click on one
of these tabs it will take you to a page that will give you facts and specifics about that specific
cancer. For example Located on their facts page you will find this paragraph The American
Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 62,450 new cases of thyroid cancer in the
U.S. in 2015. Of these new cases, about 47,230 will occur in women and about 15,220 will
occur in men. About 1,950 people (1,080 women and 870 men) will die of thyroid cancer in
2015. (ThyCa.org, 2015). This shows the upcoming statistics for the ratio of men and
women to get thyroid cancer.
