On July 9, 2015, a commercial shrimp fisherman caught a twelve-inch-long, giant tiger shrimp (Penaeus
monodon) on the St. Johns River in northeast Florida. Its no longer unusual for shrimpers to catch tiger
shrimp, an invasive species from Asia, along the southeast and Gulf coasts of the United States, but one twelve
inches long is rarity.
