Welcome to the 3rd Grade

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Hello there! It is nice to meet you! My name is John Hernandez and I am going to be
working with you this school year, as your child's Grade 3 Teacher. I am looking forward
to helping your child continue to acquire academic, behavioral, and social skills that they
can use this year and in their future. As many of you know, Grade 3 is the first year that
students are administered a state assessment test in the spring, the STAAR test.
In order to be prepared for the STAAR test, students will receive instruction every week
in subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, etc. In order to become effective learners,
my students will be required to learn and follow Classroom Procedures. These
procedures cover a range of simple tasks, such as raising your hand and waiting to talk,
and through to complex tasks like how to put away materials and transition to another
subject.
I would greatly like to meet with parents as soon as possible to go over any questions or
concerns that I can assist with. Please contact me via email, or leave a message with the
office secretary, and I will get back to you quickly, but no longer than 24 hours from
when you contacted me. Typically, I can meet with you before or after school, as well as
during Grade 3 conference time, 10:40 to 11:30am. I will make myself available as best I
can to fit your schedule.
