Birmingham Water Works Opens its Doors to

Historically Underutilized and Small Businesses
Utility to host business opportunity workshop
(BIRMINGHAM, Ala. July 13, 2015) The Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB) will host
a business opportunity workshop Thursday, July 16 from 1pm 3pm, in the training room of its
main campus, where the utility will invite historically underutilized and small businesses to
participate. The workshop will be open to the public and allow primary contractors, subcontractors
and suppliers the chance to become more familiar with the water systems bid processes and major
categories of work.
I believe the more community outreach the better, says BWWB Spokesperson Rick Jackson. We
make it a priority to make a good faith effort, and it is reflected in our documents. Its imperative
that all businesses, big or small, have a fair chance at shaking hands with us in the name of
business.
Currently, the agenda is set to cover bid law procedures, minority participation and projections,
major categories of work, and the BWWB capital budget.

Founded in 1951, the Birmingham Water Works Board serves 600,000 people in Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair,
and Walker counties. The BWWB operates four filtration plants, a certified testing laboratory, and has more than
4,000 miles of pipe in its distribution network; it ranked among the top five water systems in the United States.
