South Creek Middle School

Dear South Creek Middle School Staff:
It is with great excitement and anticipation that I am joining you as an
administrative intern this year. I am a Fellow with the Northeast Leadership
Academy at NC State University and have been placed at SCMS as part of my
masters degree program. I am passionate about education and view schools as a
fundamental building block to a prospering society, economy, and democracy.
I have been a teacher for 11 years, with the past four as a 7 th and 8th grade math
teacher at Williamston Middle School. I am well aware of the challenges that many
of our students face but I am driven by the rewards that come with helping students
achieve above their expectations.
I am a lateral entry teacher. Prior to entering education, I earned degrees in physics
and chemical engineering and designed water treatment facilities with a consulting
environmental engineering firm. My k-12 teachers had a significant impact on me
and I consider it a responsibility to prepare and inspire the next generation of
thinkers, leaders, and productive citizens.
Lastly, I believe effective teachers are the greatest factor in student achievement
and the most significant learning occurs because of positive relationships with
adults. I have already been impressed with the quality of our staff based on my first
few days at SCMS and I look forward to working with all of you.
