PLAN

The Churchs liturgical year is told through a framework of different


seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Ordinary Time),
revealing the story of salvation and drawing inspiration from Jewish
tradition (CHLS9).

Skills
Make connections between some key celebrations of the Churchs
liturgical year and the story of salvation (CHLS9).
Relevant information from the Achievement Standards:
They identify and describe many ways in which faith is celebrated in the
lives of believers, past and present, including the commemoration of High
Holy Days by Jewish believers; the Churchs liturgical year and the
celebration of Eucharist (Year 6 Achievement Standards).

Students will be assisted to:


Investigate the story of salvation
Investigate the Easter Liturgical Season
Analyse and make connections between the two topics
Fertile Question:
In groups of 4 that have been allocated in the
classroom, the students will present an
argument to the Catholic community on why
or why not the salvation story should be
addressed during the liturgical season of
Easter?

Summative Assessment:
The students will perform a
presentation to the church
community using:

Learning Episode 1
Introduce the concept of liturgical seasons
with the students as well as the salvation
story
Outline the assessment task ahead and
what is required of them as a group
Ask the students what course of action do
they wish to take in terms of research,
presentation and opinion
Go through the criteria and ask the
students if they are able to establish what
has been lined up in the criteria

Learning Episode 2
After establishing groups and the point of
view that the students have chosen, split the
groups in half and each pair will be given
either the background of the Easter season or
the salvation story to research, focusing on
the following questions and answering them
on a tabled worksheet with the following
headings:
Who was involved?
What happened?
When did this take place and when is it
commemorated now?
Where did it happen? Where can it be
found in the Bible?
Why is important in the Catholic
religion and for this school?
How do you think churches and
schools today use the wisdom from
this to teach the people/students they
are educating?
The pairs will the reunite with their other half
and discuss their findings and writing the
answers that are similar onto a shared tabled
worksheet
