Haralson County High Schools Shared Vision for Technology Integration

Vision Statement
Haralson County High School will be recognized as a leader in improving student
achievement for ALL students through technology enhanced instruction.
Rationale
Haralson County Schools mission is to produce high-achieving students who will graduate
and become productive and responsible citizens. Integrating educational technology into
classroom instruction has been shown through research to have a positive effect on student
achievement (ISTE, 2008). In order to graduate productive and responsible citizens, Haralson
County High School must ensure that its students develop 21st century skills (ISTE, 2008).
Students must develop the abilities to communicate, collaborate, analyze, create, innovate, and
solve problems (ISTE, 2008). Using technology for instruction and learning, students acquire
those skills necessary to be productive and competitive in the modern workplace (ISTE, 2008).
Haralson County High Schools teachers and staff believe they can raise student achievement
through the integration of educational technology in its classrooms. When surveyed over 75%
of respondents indicated that they believe information and communication technology has a
positive impact on student learning. The majority of HCHS faculty respondents also indicated
they have a strong desire for more technology related professional development. The majority
also indicated students, teachers, and staff have access to the instructional technology available at
the school.
Diversity Considerations
The vision of Haralson County High School includes the achievement of All students.

socioeconomic status. Fifty four percent of HCHSs students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Many of HCHSs students only have access to educational technology and the Internet at school.
This fact must be considered as a technology integration plan is developed. In order to fulfill the
vision of raising achievement of All students, this digital equity divide must to be closed
(Creighton, 2003). All stakeholders will work to ensure equitable access to educational
technology.
Administrators Role:
As the building leaders, the school administrators will play a central role in the development
of the technology plan as well as ensuring the plan is properly aligned with the school
improvement plan. Administrators will work collaboratively with other stakeholders on ensuring
effective integration of technology using the technology plan. Administrators will also
collaborate with technology leaders in the school to provide professional learning opportunities
for teachers and staff. It is essential that school leaders provide teachers with opportunities for
practice to develop technology skills and knowledge (Creighton, 2003).
Technology Coachs Role:
The technology coach will determine the technology and instructional needs of the faculty
and collaborate with the administration to provide professional learning opportunities to meet
those needs. The technology coach will collaboratively plan with teachers to create technology
enhanced instruction that is aligned with state subject standards and provides students with
authentic learning experiences that will develop their ability to communicate, collaborate,
analyze, create, innovate, and solve problems (ISTE, 2008). The technology coach will also
work closely with teachers in the delivery of standards based technology-enhanced instruction to
provide guidance and support through the integration process.

SHARED VISION

Teachers Role:
Teachers will collaboratively plan standards-based technology enhanced instruction that
provides students with opportunities to communicate, collaborate, analyze, create, innovate, and
solve problems (ISTE, 2008). Teachers will communicate with parents in order to keep them
informed of the types of technology-enhanced instruction taking place at school. Teachers will
also provide opportunities for parents to be engaged in their childs education.
Parents Role:
When possible parents will provide students with access to educational technology outside of
school. This will be in the form of providing technology access at home, transportation to a
location with technology access, or participation in after school programs that provide
technology access. Parents will maintain communication with teachers in order to stay informed
concerning their childs education. Parents will also take advantage of opportunities to visit the
school and participate in classroom observations, parent/teacher conferences, and school related
community-planning meetings.
Students Role:
Students will participate in technology-enhanced instruction. Students will be engaged in
instructional activities that will require them to use technology to communicate, collaborate,
analyze, create, innovate, and solve problems (ISTE, 2008).
