Reflection
This artifact is a coaching journal which details coaching sessions I performed with a
colleague at my school. I coached my colleague on the implementation of the Flipped
Classroom instruction model. The coaching sessions took place over a 3-week period.
The artifact demonstrates my ability to research and recommend strategies for
initiating and sustaining technology innovations and managing the change process. Prior
to the coaching sessions that I performed, I researched the Flipped Classroom
instructional model and recommended it to my principal for implementation in the
science department at my school. Introducing this model to the science department and
coaching my colleague in the technology and classroom management skills needed to
apply this technology dependent instructional model demonstrates my ability to
implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations. This coaching
journal also details the strategies used over the course of the coaching sessions to manage
the change process.
Completing this artifact has given me a better understanding of the technology
coaching process and the challenges faced when initiating technology innovations. The
coaching sessions detailed in this artifact have taught me the importance of the research
phase in the implementation of a new technology initiative. When I conduct coaching
sessions introducing new technology initiatives in the future I plan to expand the sessions
to include more than one colleague. I understand the benefits of conducting one on one
coaching sessions but I can also see how coaching multiple people at the same time can
be beneficial as well.
The coaching sessions documented by this artifact contributed to faculty development
at my school. During these coaching sessions I assisted a faculty member in the
development of the technology and classroom management skills necessary for the
implementation of the Flipped Classroom instructional model. The impact on faculty
development can be assessed by the evaluation of the continued implementation of the
new instructional model in my schools science department.
