The bracing screws should be regularly inspected because they ore exposed to weer on the end surfaces owing to the inevitable mutual movements in vertical direction between stoybolt and A-fromes coused by ignition in the cylinder. If the bracing screws ore not correctly tightened there is © risk thet the staybolt begins to escillote transversely if the notural transversal frequency of the stoybolt is in resonance with some excitations from the engine or the ship. These oscillotions moy result in fractures in the staybolt. To avoid wear of the brocing screws we hove made o new type of bracing screw which is so elostic thot the screws ore able to follow the verticol movements of the staybolt. We enclose drowing No. 4276-4 for your guidence. Like the eorlier design of brocing screw it is necessary to loosen the new type if the staybolt nuts ore to be entirely loosened cond only tighten the bracing screws when the stoybolt nuts are ogcin correctly tightened. Normal re-tightening of the stoybolt nuts con, however, be done with normally tightened brocing screws. On inspection the old type of bracing screws (see enclosed drowing No. 1332032 end tronslotion of text 23/3-66) con be known BURMEISTES & WAIN from the new type by an external threed in the whole length whereas the new type finishes with o cylindric piece with o length of 6 mm. The new type of bracing screw hos been used for about 2 yeors. If you ore interested in these bracing screws we should like to make an offer for delivery. When mounting the new bracing screws the stoy bolt should be turned 180° because of possible wear marks from the existing brocing screws. After tightening the stay bolts, the bracing screws are screwed up as follows: All screws are screwed up until they touch the stay bolt. Screws and threaded holes are made with normal tolerances, making it possible clearly to feel when the screw is in contact with the stay bolt. All screws are tightened; however, it must not be possible to turn any of the screws essentially; otherwise the tightening of the bracing screws is repeated from item 1. If necessary, the screw in question must be made to run more easily. Lock nuts are tightened. On mounting and dismantling of the stay bolts the lock nuts are loosened, and the bracing screws so much unscrewed as to make the turned-down groove in the thread visible outside the lock nuts. 23rd March, 1966 091-4 TIANL WO METS Ta] SPATE BT TBAARG] 143094000 H a PTA t ii Titty mlefelaled [>| e[lelel el na pome) Sursnoy ay) ut a}Qousny 2 jy9sny s0[osp suuny won vadde): 59610) I 60°" 1 14d 1045 Tii6HR TROT TTT 10 6TRTROTY Tey OTT TOT
