Building a Healthier Sulphur Springs

There is a great shortage of safe and healthy housing in Sulphur Springs which is a major contributing factor to the housing
instability and transiency in this neighborhood. The goal of the Building a Healthier Sulphur Springs (BAHSS) program is to
mitigate these conditions and create stable opportunities that will improve individual and community well being. As a result,
residents will begin to adopt their neighborhood and will become more involved by taking part in resident-led activities. This
transformation will draw new residents and homebuyers to confidently invest in the neighborhood as properties will hold
their value.

Through this program, Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay (RTTB) will improve the homes of low-income residents (owners and
renters) in Suphur Springs free of charge. The Healthy Home Kit, represents an extension of our core business initiatives of
repairing owner-occupied homes, increasing affordable home ownership and creating volunteer engagement opportunities.
Weve learned how much can be accomplished if we focus on preventative measures to keep a healthier and safer living
environment inside the home. Thus, the Healthy Home Kit provides inexpensive products and tools to immediately improve
the health, safety and energy efficiency within each household.

The BAHSS program consists of the delivery of the following services:

Homeowners receive repairs to their homes and the installation of the Healthy Home Kit
Tenant-occupied homes receive installation of the Healthy Home Kit
Delivering the Living Healthier in My Home workshop for homeowners and tenants to engage them in this community
effort
Supplemental support from community organizations, ensuring on-going community-building programs
Engaging volunteers from corporations supporting the initiative, while learning more about the community and
possibly contributing in other service areas in need of expertise
Pre and post home assessment. Data will be collected to determine improvements

RTTBs BAHSS program is an initiative born out of Rebuilding Together Nationals Building a Healthy Neighborhood (BHN)
concept. Its been adopted by other Rebuilding Together affiliates nationwide demonstrating our commitment to safe and
healthy housing. RTTB has taken this model above and beyond and as a result, developed the BAHSS program and the Healthy
Home Kit component.
RTTBs services are offered to low-income homeowners from veterans, senior citizens, multi-generational families, and
low-income families with young children.

Allegany Franciscan Ministries is proud to support the Building a Healthier Sulphur Springs initiative. Education on
healthy, safe and up to code homes promotes healthy families, safe neighborhoods and community pride.

How you can contribute

Foundations, corporations and the general public are encouraged to make a financial contribution towards the BAHSS
program. Similarly, corporations are encouraged to contribute with the Healthy Home Kit contents in the form of in-kind donations.
Additionally, foundations and corporations have the opportunity to display their logo on the Healthy Home Kit box, maximizing
visibility and sponsorship recognition.
Team-building opportunity! The Healthy Home Kits contents will be installed by volunteers with the supervision of a skilled
tradesman. At least five volunteers will be assigned per home and we encourage corporate volunteers to get involved in the
installation of the Healthy Home Kit throughout the year. We anticipate the installation of at least 50 kits in 2015 which will require
the help of 250 volunteers in the next 12 months.
