How to Vote

1. Find out if you're eligible to vote in the next election.


You have to be a citizen of the US
You have to be a citizen/resident of your state
You cannot currently be in prison
If you are voting in the presidential election, you have to be
18.

2.Find out if you're already registered and if


not, register to vote.
Registering is easy, and can be done at the BMV, election offices, state voter
registration offices, public assistance facilities, and state-funded disability
centers
You can also register online
You can also fill out, print and mail in a National Mail Voter Registration Form

3. Learn where your polling place is.


vote411.org can inform you on where your polling place is
Make sure to confirm your registration a few weeks in
advance
Find out what you need to bring to your polling place

4.Obtain a sample ballot.


Familiarize yourself with how your
states ballot is set up
Mark your sample ballot according to your actual choices. This is good
practice

5. Educate yourself on the candidates and the issues.


Watch the news, use the internet, and research different
candidates campaigns

6. Go to your polling place.


Bring identification with you, such as your drivers license or passport
Before you vote check with volunteers to make sure you are registered and ready

7.Fill out the ballot as you wish.


Then turn it in the the appropriate person or machine
Different kinds of counting: Optical Scan Paper Ballot Systems,
DRE Systems, Ballot Marking Devices, and the Punch Card Ballot

8. Review your ballot.


You want to make sure you cast your vote correctly, if
something is wrong, call over one of the poll workers.

9.Apply in writing to your city election commission and wait for your
ballot to arrive.
Include your name, address, ward and precinct, and your signature
If voting in a primary election, you will also need to include the party
you are associated with

10. Fill out your ballot.


Make sure all of your choices are clearly marked, do not leave
room for guesses
Follow the instructions regularly

11.Place the small envelope into the bigger envelope.


Place the proper postage, and mail it to your city hall.
If not, you or a family member can hand your ballot to your local
election official
It cannot be received no more than 10 days after the election.
