Why is it that the key difference and separator between European

music and African based music is improvisation. (jazz blues Salsa,

Rhumba, Mambo)
But the primary form of African spirituality that is currently being
promoted to us the Diaspora as traditional African, lacks the fluidity
and soul of African and African based music?
What we are being taught is a form that is structurally rigid,
hierarchical, encouraging rote memorization, pushing homogenized,
discouraging improvisation, and individualization. I have even heard
some so called traditionalist and purest even go so far as to say that
only prayers and sacrifices spoken in correctly intoned Yoruba can be
heard by the ancestors and orisha.
Can this be correct?
In this presentation With Wynton Marsalis He will speak about the
language, roots, ascetics, structure and soul of African jazz music, and I
will do the same as it intersects with Traditional African Spirituality.
