Texture 3 PH
ASK students what kind of textures are they wearing? Have them touch their hair, clothes, shoes, and skin
to feel the difference between textures.
SHOW image of a monkey.
DISCUSS texture real and implied.
INTRODUCE paper manipulating techniques to show texture.
DEMONSTRATE IN STAGES 1. How to fold paper into cylinders, cones, and accordion style. 2. How to
cut curls, spirals, loops, and fringe. 3. How to make monkeys head and body. 4. How to make monkeys
face. 5. How to make monkeys arms and legs accordion style. 6. How to spiral cut monkeys tail. 7. How to
sponge paint texture. 8. How to make construction paper clothes with patterns.
CREATE BY: 1. Cut circle shape head from 6 X 6 dark brown construction paper. 2. Cut oval body shape
from 8 X 10 dark brown construction paper. 3. Glue together head and body. 4. Cut two arms from 6 X 12
dark brown construction paper. 5. Accordion fold arms and glue to body. 6. Cut two legs from 6 X 18 dark
brown construction paper. 7. Accordion fold legs and glue to body. 8. Cut circle for face from 5 X 5 light
brown construction paper. 9. Glue on head. 10. Cut circles for ears from 4 X 4 dark brown construction paper
and glue to head. 11. Spiral cut tail from 12 X 12 dark brown construction paper. 12. Glue to body. 13.
Sponge paint monkey with dark brown tempera paint. 14. Add scrap colored construction paper to body in
patterns for clothes. 15. Add facial details with crayons and markers.
WRAP UP (higher order goes here) Express with your neighbor how you demonstrated implied texture
showing patterns and contrast in your paper monkey.
Assessment: Did the student complete the project? Did they do a neat job? Does their art reflect the
lessons objectives?
