PURPOSE
To reduce the frequency of requests for information about a customer's environment and instead gather a vast majority of data from the host via a utility called EMC
grab.

SOLUTION
EMC grab for Unix, also known as EMC Reports for Windows, is a utility similar to a support bundle. The utility collects data from the client host. EMC support
uses this tool to troubleshoot host and storage array problems. Data Domain support can also utilize this tool to gather data from the host rather than asking
customers to run separate commands. EMC customers should already be familiar with this tool. EMC Grab utility is available for Microsoft Windows, SUN Solaris,
HP-UX, IBM AIX, and Linux.
1. Download the correct utility for the clients specific operating system via EMC Powerlink (Data Collections > EMC Grab Utilities for Host Discovery).
Alternatively, EMC grab for UNIX operating systems can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.emc.com/pub/emcgrab/Unix/.
2. Run the EMC grab tool on the host. Refer to the README file included with the utilty for detailed information. The following is an example of running the
EMC grab utility on a Solaris host:

The utility prints the output file name to the screen, as highlighted above. Upload the output file to ftp.datadomain.com (login required), attach the file to the
case, or upload the file to ftp.emc.com/incoming 180716.
