RE: Insect Complaint

John,
This letter is in response to the insect complaint of the white sealant film XXXX lot number S207989.
Samples of the laminated film were submitted to our corporate laboratory with intent to determine the location of the
insect in the laminated structure. After samples were cryogenically cut and examined under a microscope, the
analysis determined that the insect was trapped between the white sealant layer and adhesive layer. However, the
insect did not appear to be embedded in the sealant film or the PET film and its positioning created voids in the
adhesive layer, which made the origin of the insect inconclusive.
The film complaint lot S207989 began manufacture in our plant on June 6th and concluded on June 8th. On June 27th,
our entire exterior perimeter, including all entrances and exits, were sprayed for insect control. Our pest control
service conducted its weekly service on June 8th. During this visit the pest control service records did not show
above normal insect activity. Our records indicated that the insect activity was low with total insect counts ranging
from 0-50. This number is generated from the total insect count from the insect light traps. Currently there are
twelve total insect traps in the plant and eight of them are concentrated in the production area where this material is
produced.
As part of ongoing improvements to ensure product quality; steps began in February 2015 to upgrade our current
pest control program to meet the AIB standard requirements for pest management. Here are some of the
improvements that have been made so far:

Building repairs completed to seal any openings into the plant.

A 14" painted perimeter was added to the interior which face the outside walls to allow for additional
rodent traps to be added.

Additional exterior bait stations were added to the perimeter of the facility.

The pest control service was increased from bi-monthly to a weekly schedule for service and reports.

New loading dock doors were installed to eliminate the risk of insect entry.

Exterior perimeter spray applications twice a year to deter insects.

Due to the fact there was some activity recorded in the area at the time of manufacture, we realize the potential of
insect contamination in our film. We are now requesting AEP Corporate Management support to further prevent any
insect infiltration, potentially adding positive air pressure to portions of our facility, installing high speed overhead
doors to segregate areas and permanently sealing unloading docks in the vicinity of production lines.
We value your input and strive to continue to provide you with quality film. Please feel free to contact me with any
questions or concerns.
Thank you for your continued business with AEP Industries.

Sincerely,

Jonathan T. Hawkes
