Graphical Presentation of Data

Histogram - is a graphical representation showing a visual impression of the


distribution of data. It is an estimate of the probability distribution of a
continuous variable and was first introduced by Karl Pearson.

Frequency polygon is a graphical device for understanding the shapes of


distributions.

Ogive (a cumulative line graph)- is best used when you want to display the
total at any given time.

Line chart or line graph is a type of graph, which displays information as a


series of data points connected by straight line segments.

A bar chart or bar graph is a chart with rectangular bars with lengths
proportional to the values that they represent.

A pie chart (or a circle graph) is a circular chart divided into sectors,
illustrating proportion.

Pictograph is a way of representing statistical data using symbolic figures to


match the frequencies of different kinds of data.
