NOTES
All unmarked bytes are reserved for future international normalization (medium dependance, additional
national use and other purposes).
The SOH is divided into two subassemblies: the RSOH and the MSOH.
RSOH : Regeneration Section OverHead.
MSOH : Multiplexing Section OverHead.
Remark :

For some applications (e.g. interface used within a station), an interface with reduced SOH
heading functions has been normalized.

DESCRIPTION OF RSOH and MSOH

A1, A2

: They make up the frame alignment word.

J0

: Regeneration section trace (identifier of a section access point

which can be encoded on one byte or a 16-byte frame).
: BIP8, even parity of order 8 of the preceding scrambled
frame.

B1
E1

: User channel (audio).

F1

: Service channel.

D1 to D3

: Data communication at 192 Kbit/s.

DCCr = Data Communication Channel RSOH.
B2
: BIP24, even parity of order 24 of the preceding unscrambled
frame (without RSOH).
: Assigned to the multiplexing section protection protocol
K1 K2
(MSP).
D4 to D12: Data communication at 576 Kbit/s.
DCCM : Data Communication Channel MSOH.
S1
: Informs of the remote equipment s synchronization status.
E2
: User channel (audio).
: Return of the remote B2, MS_REI (MS_FEBE).
M1
NOTES
A1

11110110 = F6 hexadecimal

A2

00101000 = 28 hexadecimal

J0

Message enabling the receiver to check the continuity of its connection with the desired
transmitter.

D1 to D3 = Represents a 192 Kbit/s channel on which system information is transmitted (network

management).
