Materials Needed: Paper, crayons, plush ball
Focus & Review

I will begin the lesson by reviewing the

elements of a story.

Lesson Objective

Students will be able to identify and describe

characters in a story.

Teacher Input

I will define what characters are

Characters-A person, animal, or thing within
the story that has an active role.

Guided Practice

Independent Practice

I will hand out a copy of the story The

Princess and the Pea to each student.
I will then read the story The Princess and the
Pea aloud.
As I read I will ask the students to listen. Each
time they hear a character they are to raise
their hand.
After the book is done being read, we will
discuss when the students raised their hands
and their reasons for doing so.
The students will choose a character from The
Princess and the Pea and create a web on that
character.
The students will draw a picture of the
character in the middle of white paper.
The students are to write 4 details of their
chosen character.

right, and lower right sections of their paper)
Closure

I will give one student a plush ball.

I will ask the students to name one thing that
they learned from this lesson.
The student with the ball will then answer the
question and then pass the ball to another
student for them to answer the same question.
