Magnetic Shielding Concept

Pic.1

This concept is derived from the Halbach magnetic array

uses 5 cube magnets in a particular configuration.
I discovered that an array of 3 magnets can achieve the
same effect. For the building of this array, I used small
magnets from Jaycar which are easy to come by and
are cheap. I started off by making 12x12x10 magnets,
consisting of 3 Jaycar magnets glued together as in Pic.1.
They will of course resemble the same properties as one
magnet with just one north and south once put together.

Pic.2 shows how the magnets are glued together to make

the triple arrays.

Pic.3,the arrays can be put together in

two different ways resulting in either a
strong north or south. The weak
(augmented side) is at least 10 times
weaker. Arrays of the opposite types
always attract each other no matter
which faces are put together.

If two arrays of the same polarity Re moved towards each other as in Pic.4 in order to slide
on top of one another, there is very little repulsion. If they are moved towards each other
from the other direction as in Pic.5 a strong repulsive force becomes evident. This is as
close to magnetic shielding as I have seen so far. The weak side of one of the arrays shows
neither repulsion or attraction to either pole of another magnet that is brought close to it.

Since this type of magnetic array exhibits exactly the properties of Tom Beardens
proposed design, it was now time to build a working model in order to try the concept
in practice. Unfortunately there is absolutely now difference whether the rotor is turned
one way or another. In other words it does not work.
