Volleyball Drill-Book: Beginner (Level)

- 5.3 Block Drills under simplified conditions

Teaching Points:

Equipment:

Three players with one ball box (6-8

balls)

Via the different trajectories of the balls, the

timing of the block-movement is practiced;
therefore it is useful to vary the trajectories
throughout the whole drill.
The height of the net has to match the players
skills: the better the player, the higher is the net
If the hit is performed while standing, it is very
important to use the torso as little as possible;
the movement should exclusively happen via the
acceleration of the arm and wrist

Drill Objective:
Correct timing and tension of the
shoulder for an appropriate arm- and
hand position.

Drill Description:
A is standing in an elevated position
and throws or hits the ball in various
distances to the net straight to B. B is
standing at the net (at face height)
and blocks the ball. C supplies A with
balls, after 6-8 repetitions the players
switch roles.

Drill Variations:

Both A and B are standing in an
elevated position and hit balls
towards C; C has to block this
time; D is picking up the balls
und puts them back into the ball
box for A and B
