Personal Finance

2015 Fall Semester

Course Objectives:
This course is divided into seven areas of study. The following objectives are part of the
Career and Technical Education Course Essential Standards. Students will study and
understand:
How to take charge of your financial well-being
Principles of managing your money
Principles of earning
Principles of receiving
Principles of saving and investing
Principles of spending (protecting and borrowing)
Principles of giving
Required Materials:

Computer Flash Drive, Notebook and Pen or Pencil

Expectations:

Genuine attempt at all class activities


Full participation in collaborative discussions
Completion of assignments
Willingness to give and receive constructive feedback

Required Text:
Students will create their own textbook from class handouts. Each key topic will be
accompanied with a PowerPoint presentation. Each presentation will be shared in Google
documents.

Grade percentage:
The predominant weight for this class will be on tests scores that are based on the class
objectives. Class work, homework and projects will comprise the balance of the grade
Class participation and attendance policy:
Class participation is necessary for success in this class. Also, all assignments must be
completed by the assigned due dates. Any assignment not submitted by the assigned due date
will not be accepted. Only a few circumstances will warrant late submission. Any late
submission of an assignment is at the discretion of the instructor. County policy states that
no more than nine absences are allowed for an entire semester.
